This Week: Continuing our tribute to May 7 birthdays, we’ll play Tchaikovsky’s 51-minute “Manfred” Symphony, tucked in time between his 4th and 5th symphonies, but more programmatic in nature, picturing Byron’s 1816 epic poem by that name. This also honors the bicentennial of Byron’s untimely death 200 years ago, on April 25, 1824, at age 36. We’ll round out the hour with parts of Tchaikovsky’s ravishing “Serenade for Strings.”
